Jedi Order

An ancient order of Force-sensitives, bound to the Galactic Republic for millennia. The Jedi served as guardians of peace and justice, and in the Clone Wars they took on the role of commanders of the Grand Army of the Republic.

The Order was structured as a tiered community: younglings, Padawans under masters, Knights, and Masters; its highest body was the Jedi Council, which convened in the temple on Coruscant. Training included lightsaber combat and working with the Force, and members were required to refrain from attachments and the pursuit of power.

The Order was almost entirely wiped out by Order 66, issued by Darth Sidious at the end of the Clone Wars; the temple on Coruscant fell, and the survivors were hunted by Darth Vader and the Inquisitorius. The few Jedi who survived the purge remained in hiding until a time when training became possible again.
