Coruscant

Coruscant is located in the galaxy's Core and is an ecumenopolis planet: its surface is entirely covered by the multilevel development of Galactic City, where the upper tiers are occupied by the spires of government buildings, while the lower levels, which see almost no sunlight, have turned into criminal slums.

The planet was home to the Galactic Senate building, the Supreme Chancellor's office, and the Jedi Temple with the Council and the archives. The main hyperspace routes passed through Coruscant, and traffic in the atmosphere was regulated by skylane corridors.

At the end of the Clone Wars a major battle unfolded above the planet, during which the Separatists attempted to abduct the Supreme Chancellor. After the proclamation of the Empire, Coruscant was renamed Imperial Center and remained the capital of the new regime; the Jedi Temple was seized during the execution of Order 66.
