Sidious kills his master Darth Plagueis
On Coruscant, in a residential complex belonging to the Muun Hego Damask, the apprentice strikes at his master. Darth Sidious kills Darth Plagueis in his sleep, completing years of training under the Rule of Two and remaining the sole full Lord of the Sith on the eve of a decisive year for the Republic.
Description
Darth Plagueis was a Muun and was trained by the Sith Darth Tenebrous. His chief interest was immortality: he believed that the secret of eternal life lay in the realm of science, and together with his apprentice he researched the possibility of influencing midi-chlorians in order to create life and keep from death whomever he wished. These experiments gave him extensive knowledge of the dark side. As his last apprentice, he chose Sheev Palpatine, a native of Naboo, who took the name Darth Sidious. Their years of work together were devoted not only to the search for immortality but also to the Sith's long-standing plan to replace the Galactic Republic with a state of their own. The Rule of Two, which limited the order to one master and one apprentice, presupposed that the apprentice would sooner or later take the master's place. Sidious killed Plagueis and remained the sole full-fledged Sith Lord, inheriting his knowledge. Later he retold the story of his master's death as a cautionary tale in order to sway Anakin Skywalker to the dark side, and he made use of Plagueis's work itself after his own death above Endor.
