Ruusan Reformation
Warning: this entry reveals minor plot details.
The Republic restructured itself after the wars: the chancellor lost some of his power, and the Jedi disbanded their army.
Description
The reforms were carried out by Chancellor Tarsus Valorum after the New Sith Wars. The Republic's Bureau of Standards established a new year zero, timing it to the Seventh Battle of Ruusan; in the Galactic Standard Calendar this point corresponds to 1,000 BBY. The Republic's armed forces were disbanded, and defense was entrusted to the systems themselves, which hit the poorest worlds of the Outer Rim hard. For the Jedi Order this meant a serious restructuring: the Jedi gave up battle armor and military ranks, including the title of Jedi lord, abolished the post of supreme commander, disbanded their army, navy, and starfighter forces, and came under the oversight of the Supreme Chancellor and the Judicial Department. Children began to be taken for training from birth, and the training of Padawans was concentrated on Coruscant. Representation changed as well: Valorum reduced the existing millions of sectors to 1,024, each of which was entitled to its own senator, with certain exceptions for influential Core Worlds. The Reformation ended the Republic's Dark Age; at the same time, Darth Bane's order was restructured according to the Rule of Two.
