Profile

A small desert moon locked in eternal winter, one of the oldest centers of Force study. Pilgrims of many faiths come here from all over the galaxy, and its holy city is full of temples and relics. In the High Republic era a peace summit on Jedha collapsed: an explosion during the ceremony reignited the war.

Description

Jedha is a small desert moon of the planet NaJedha in the Jedha system, which belongs to the Mid Rim. Because of a prolonged winter the climate here is cold, and the surface is occupied by rocky wastelands. The moon is also known as the Pilgrim's Moon, the Cold Moon, and the Kyber Heart.

Jedha was revered by many believers in the Force, and its main settlement was called the Holy City; its narrow streets, squares, and markets hampered the use of heavy equipment. The moon's interior is rich in kyber crystals, which the Jedi formerly used in making lightsabers.

The Empire occupied the moon to mine the crystals, which provoked armed resistance led by Saw Gerrera and his partisans. Later Jedha was chosen for a test of the battle station's superlaser: instead of destroying the entire moon, it was decided to limit the strike to the destruction of the Holy City.
