Operation on Jedha

Jedha is an ancient center of Force worship whose holy sites drew pilgrims for centuries. The Empire occupied the planet for its deposits of kyber crystals, which were needed for the main weapon of the battle station under construction. The removal of the crystals was accompanied by the destruction of temples, and in the Holy City an armed band of local rebels was active, attacking Imperial transport convoys. Alliance intelligence sent its people there to track down a defecting Imperial pilot who had delivered a message from the scientist directing work on the weapon. In the city they were drawn into a street battle between the rebel band and Imperial patrols and fell into the hands of the former, where they gained access to the message itself. The information obtained confirmed that the Empire was completing a planet-scale weapon and pointed to the existence of plans kept in the Imperial archive. Jedha itself was used for the first test of the superlaser: the Holy City and the surrounding area were destroyed, which deprived the rebel band of its base and served as visible confirmation of the threat.
