Virus outbreak on the prison barge Purge
Because of an engine failure, an Imperial prison barge docks with an abandoned Star Destroyer, and a boarding party brings an unknown contagion aboard. Almost the entire crew and the prisoners die and turn into aggressive undead; only a handful of people survive, including two smuggler prisoners.
Description
The Imperial prison barge Purge was transporting prisoners when its engines failed. Warden Bisly Kloth ordered a boarding party under the captain of the guard, Sartoris, to be sent to an abandoned Star Destroyer discovered nearby to salvage spare parts: the ship was intact but deserted. The returning party brought a pathogen aboard the barge. The infection spread rapidly: almost the entire crew and the prisoners died within a short time, and the ship's doctor, Zahara Cody, was unable to find a cure. It soon emerged that the dead were rising and attacking the living, and that the source of the disease was precisely the abandoned Destroyer, where Imperial work on this pathogen had been carried out. Of all those aboard the barge, only a handful survived: two teenage brothers, the doctor, the captain of the guard, and smugglers who happened to be among the prisoners. The incident remained known as a case of the use of a pathogen developed in Imperial laboratories and as evidence of the consequences to which the regime's secret research led.
