Rise of the Path of the Open Hand cult
The religious movement known as the Path of the Open Hand taught that the Force must remain free and condemned those who used it.
Description
The Path of the Open Hand cult took shape on the remote world of Dalna several centuries before the Clone Wars. Its teachings held that the Force must remain free and that any deliberate use of it violated the natural order and brought misfortune; Force-sensitives, and above all the Jedi, were therefore declared to be the cause of the galaxy's troubles. The movement reached its greatest scope under a leader known as the Mother. Under her, the community grew considerably, acquired a strict hierarchy with Elders and a Herald, and began building a huge ship, the Gaze Electric, intended to spread the teachings across the galaxy. The preaching found a response above all where people sought escape from war: on E'ronoh, young people who wanted to avoid conscription joined the cult. Over time the movement took on militant features, and leaving the community came to be equated with treason. It later emerged that the Mother herself secretly used the Force and passed off her own inventions as prophecies, and some of her followers split off into a militant wing, the Closed Fist.
