Battle of Geonosis

The first open clash between the Republic and the Confederacy, which marks the start of the Clone Wars.
Description
The clash was preceded by a schism in the Republic: the Separatist movement led by Count Dooku united disaffected systems and major commercial conglomerates. Obi-Wan Kenobi, investigating the attempt on Senator Amidala's life, picked up the trail of the weapon's maker and reached Geonosis, where he discovered battle droid factories and a meeting of the Confederacy's leaders. His message was intercepted, and he himself was captured. Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala followed him into the execution arena. A team of Jedi led by Mace Windu arrived to rescue them; most of them died fighting droids and mercenaries. The situation changed with the arrival of Yoda and the clone army hastily brought from Kamino, the very army whose commissioning the Order had learned of shortly before. The battle moved from the arena to open terrain, where Republic forces attacked the Confederacy's vehicles and ships. A significant part of the Separatist forces was destroyed, but Dooku managed to escape, taking with him the plans for a future battle station. The Republic used its own army for the first time, and a local conflict turned into a galaxy-wide war.
