Beginning of the Clone Wars
The first open clash between the Republic's army and the forces of the Confederacy set the galaxy on course for full-scale war.
Description
The Confederacy of Independent Systems took shape over several years: discontent with the central government, taxes, and corruption led many worlds to leave the Republic, and industrial conglomerates provided the movement with factories and droid armies. For a long time the Republic had no armed forces of its own and relied on the Jedi as mediators and peacekeepers. The situation changed after the Senate approved a military act and a ready-made clone army was discovered on Kamino, grown on an order placed without the knowledge of the Jedi Council. The first use of these troops on Geonosis showed that negotiations were exhausted: both sides possessed mass armies and an industrial base to replenish them. The war quickly engulfed the galaxy. The Jedi received the rank of general and command of clone units, which turned an order of peacekeepers into a military force. The conflict lasted about three years, exhausted the Republic, accustomed it to emergency measures, and created the conditions under which the Supreme Chancellor concentrated almost unlimited power in his hands.
