Description
The second film in the Star Wars Story line, released on May 25, 2018. The film is devoted to the early years of one of the central heroes of the original trilogy. The screenplay was written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jonathan Kasdan; production was accompanied by a change of directors: the work begun by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller was completed by Ron Howard, who is credited as director. The music was composed by John Powell, using a theme written by John Williams.
The leading roles were played by Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Thandiwe Newton, Paul Bettany, and Donald Glover as the young Lando Calrissian. The action belongs to the era of the Galactic Empire, roughly a decade before A New Hope, and unfolds in a milieu of smugglers, syndicates, and Imperial recruitment.
The film shows the origin of a number of recognizable elements of the universe: the ship Millennium Falcon, the hero's first meeting with Chewbacca, and the criminal syndicate Crimson Dawn. At the box office, the film earned less than the franchise's other films.
