Han and Qi'ra's escape from Corellia
Warning: this entry reveals minor plot details.
On the shipbuilding world of Corellia, young Han and his friend Qi'ra break free of Lady Proxima's White Worms crime syndicate, stealing a vial of coaxium hyperfuel. In a stolen speeder they shake off their pursuers and reach Coronet spaceport, where they bribe an Imperial official with the coaxium. Han gets through the checkpoint, but Qi'ra is caught by the syndicate's henchmen, and he vows to come back for her.
Description
Corellia was one of the largest shipbuilding worlds in the galaxy, but its shipyards and slums were under the control of criminal organizations. Orphaned children were taken in by the White Worms syndicate, led by Lady Proxima, which used them as thieves and couriers; breaking free of its control was almost impossible, since the syndicate kept both the port and the customs checkpoints under surveillance. Han and his friend Qi'ra resolved to flee, having obtained a vial of the rare substance coaxium, which they intended to hand over as a bribe for a place on a ship. The escape was discovered, and they had to evade pursuit through the streets and factory districts to the spaceport. At the checkpoint the substance was accepted as payment, but only Han managed to get through: Qi'ra was detained, and he was left alone on the other side of the barrier, promising to come back for her. With neither money nor papers, Han enlisted in the Imperial army — the only way available to him to leave the planet and receive flight training. His separation from Qi'ra shaped his subsequent actions, while she herself remained on Corellia and later became connected with another criminal organization.

Other connections
- Han Solo escapes from Garris Shrikec. 10 BBYAn alternate version of this eventTwo versions of Han Solo's origins and his departure from the criminal world. In Legends, he was raised by Garris Shrike on a troop transport where children worked as beggars and thieves, and the young man ran away from his foster guardian. In canon, he grew up on Corellia among Lady Proxima's “scrumrats” and fled the planet together with Qi'ra, and their separation at the spaceport determined his entire subsequent fate. The place, the name of the gang's master, and whether the escape was made alone differ.
