Yavin 4

Yavin 4 is a jungle-covered moon of the gas giant Yavin, located in the Outer Rim. The moon's humid forests conceal massive stone temple-pyramids, erected in deep antiquity and long abandoned.

The Alliance to Restore the Republic adapted one of these temples as its main base: its halls housed starfighter hangars, a headquarters, and a communications center. From here launched the squadrons that attacked the Imperial battle station, whose plans had been obtained shortly before.

The Battle of Yavin ended with the destruction of the station but revealed the location of the base, and the rebels had to abandon the moon. The date of this battle became the reference point for the galaxy-wide calendar.
