Description
Khofar is a terrestrial planet in the Outer Rim, covered with dense forests and jungles. The world has a breathable Type I atmosphere, at least one natural satellite orbits it, and the system is lit by at least one star. Notable among the local fauna are umbramoths — large creatures that can be found among the tree thickets.
During the High Republic era the Wookiee Jedi Master Kelnacca lived in seclusion on Khofar; Kelnacca's hideout, preserved on the planet, remains its main known landmark. It was for this reason that a remote forest world, otherwise barely noticeable on galactic maps, drew the attention of several parties at once, and the jungles of Khofar became the setting for a number of episodes of the series The Acolyte.
Khofar first appeared in the episode “Revenge / Justice” of the series Star Wars: The Acolyte, released on June 4, 2024, and later featured in the episodes “Day,” “Night,” and “Teach / Corrupt.” In the early stages of development it was intended that Kelnacca would hide on the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk, but the creators decided to introduce a new planet for the sake of fresh locations.
Location scenes were filmed on the Portuguese island of Madeira, and for studio shooting production designer Kevin Jenkins built an extensive forest: about 160 living trees, seven artificial ones, a full painted backdrop, vegetation, fog under the ceiling, and running water. The set was used for about five weeks; the look of Khofar's trees goes back to the work of Ralph McQuarrie, including sketches originally created for Dagobah.
