Founding of the Resistance

Finding no support from the New Republic, Alliance veterans gathered their own forces against the growing threat.
Description
The Resistance grew out of an unofficial breakaway wing of the New Republic Defense Force. It was created by Leia Organa after she was forced out of the Senate by a scandal: the revelation that her father had been Darth Vader stripped her of political weight. The Senate regarded alarm about a threat from the Unknown Regions as an obsession with the past and left the Republic unarmed. The Rebel Alliance served as the model. Organa gathered veterans of the Galactic Civil War, among them Admiral Gial Ackbar, and serving officers such as Poe Dameron. The planet D'Qar became the base: an abandoned outpost, once intended for the Alliance and at one time occupied by partisans, was rebuilt into a headquarters on Organa's personal orders. Initially the organization operated within the territory of the First Order, gathering evidence of prohibited military preparations to hand over to the Senate. It moved to open war only when the enemy began its seizure of the galaxy.
