Captivity and rescue of Jacen Solo on Belkadan
A reconnaissance mission brought Luke Skywalker and his nephew to a world poisoned by the invaders. Jacen followed a vision, lost a fight to a Vong warrior, and ended up in a torture device, but his uncle fought his way to him and freed him, tearing out the implanted growth.
Description
Belkadan is a forest world in the Dalonbian sector of the Outer Rim, covered with tall dallorallas trees and small natural bodies of water. It was home to the ExGal-4 outpost, founded by a society that searched for signs of life beyond the galaxy. By 25 ABY, the planet had already been taken over from within: Yomin Carr, an agent of the Praetorite Vong, was posing as one of the station's scientists. The world's atmosphere was altered by a creature brought by the invaders — a beetle that released enormous quantities of carbon dioxide and sulfur, causing the sky to darken and the air to become poisonous. It was to this poisoned world that the Jedi reconnaissance came. After the destruction of ExGal-4, the effects of the biological weapon subsided, and the Yuuzhan Vong fleet that had arrived in the galaxy set up a shipyard on Belkadan. Thus a world that had served as an observation post watching outer space was the very first to be turned against the galaxy.
