Battle of Helska IV
New Republic forces destroyed the ice planet Helska IV along with the Praetorite Vong base, thwarting the first phase of the invasion.
Description
The first Yuuzhan Vong units to enter the galaxy from outside were the Praetorite Vong. They established a base on the fourth planet of the Helska system, an icy world that had previously been unnamed and unsettled. The New Republic learned of the newcomers after the atrocities they committed, and Han Solo, Leia Organa Solo, and Luke Skywalker assembled a strike force whose main strength was the Star Destroyer Rejuvenator. At first the advantage lay with the Republic forces, but they were soon attacked by thousands of coralskippers acting in concert thanks to a telepathic war coordinator, the yammosk. The Rejuvenator was lost, and the force had to retreat. The Republic forces returned using shield ships: the collected energy was directed back at the planet, vaporizing the ice and cooling the world. The resulting Mezzikanli wave tore Helska IV apart, destroying most of the Praetorite Vong forces. Their invasion ended there, but other Yuuzhan Vong formations entered the galaxy after them.
