Vader investigates the unexecuted order on Murkhana

The events on Murkhana date to the first weeks of the Empire's existence, when news of the fall of the Jedi Order had not yet reached the distant frontiers. On this Outer Rim planet, Jedi Masters Roan Shryne and Bol Chatak, together with Padawan Olee Starstone, were leading an assault on a Separatist stronghold, unaware that the order to exterminate the Order had already been given and that the war had turned against them. The Emperor sent his new apprentice there: some of the clones had not carried out the directive to destroy the Jedi, and this required investigation. For Darth Vader, who had only recently taken that name, the assignment was both a test and a way of learning what it meant to be a Sith — in Palpatine's design, the early assignments served precisely this purpose. The Jedi managed to escape execution, but they became prey in a pursuit that stretched across several worlds. More dangerous to the survivors than the clones and the newly deployed assault forces proved to be Vader himself, whose role in the extermination of the Order was not yet known to the galaxy.
