Fall of Kashyyyk and death of Roan Shryne

19 BBYExact dateLast checked: 23 October 2026

Imperial assault forces land on Kashyyyk, where the surviving Jedi fight side by side with the Wookiees. Roan Shryne takes on Vader to let Olee Starstone escape and is killed; Chewbacca gets the remaining Jedi away, and the planet falls under the Empire's control.

Description

Roan Shryne survived the execution of the order to destroy the Jedi on Murkhana, where he watched Darth Vader kill Master Bol Chatak. In despair, he abandoned the Jedi path, gave up his lightsaber, and joined the crew of the smuggling ship Drunk Dancer, commanded by his own mother, Jula. His former apprentice Olee Starstone took on the task of gathering survivors. The search for survivors led the Jedi to Kashyyyk, where Imperial assault forces were landing and the Wookiees were resisting enslavement. The Empire was counting both on capturing the planet and on luring out the Jedi in hiding. When the crew and the young Jedi were in danger of being captured, Shryne intervened: he summoned the lightsaber he had left behind, killed the clone commander Appo, and challenged Vader to a duel, giving the others a chance to escape. The duel ended with Shryne mortally wounded. Vader did not finish him off immediately but revealed to the dying man that the Emperor was a Dark Lord of the Sith and that he himself had formerly been called Anakin Skywalker. Kashyyyk remained under Imperial domination, and its population was enslaved for decades.
