Declaration of Rebellion

The opposition had been taking shape since the end of the Clone Wars, when disaffected senators united in the Delegation of 2,000 and demanded that the chancellor give up his emergency powers. After the proclamation of the Empire and the mass arrests, some of them, including Mon Mothma and Bail Organa, remained in the Senate while also supporting scattered underground cells. The shooting of demonstrators on Ghorman showed that legal means had been exhausted. Declared a traitor, Mon Mothma left Coruscant with the help of Cassian Andor and her aide Erskin Semaj. The crew of the transport Ghost and a squadron of bombers were assigned to cover her escape; after several ambushes and a flight through a nebula, the surviving ships reached Dantooine. It was from there that the speech was broadcast, via underground communication channels and intercepted HoloNet lines. Mon Mothma announced her withdrawal from the Senate, named the emperor as the perpetrator of crimes, and called for an alliance to restore the Republic. In response, the ships of the cells that answered the call emerged from hyperspace above the planet one after another. This speech is considered the official beginning of the Galactic Civil War, and the resulting Alliance was led by Mon Mothma herself.
