Description
Mon Mothma had represented Chandrila back in the Senate of the Republic and kept her seat after the state was transformed into the Empire. Outwardly remaining loyal, for years she led a double life: together with Bail Organa and the underground operative Luthen Rael she built a resistance network and secretly financed it from her own funds, for which she used accounts on her home planet. Inspections by Imperial auditors and the aftermath of the raid on Aldhani put this scheme at risk. Her speech in the Senate the day after the shooting on Ghorman Plaza marked a break with her former tactics. The senator declared that the loss of objective reality was more dangerous than anything else, called what had happened an unprovoked genocide, and directly placed the blame on Emperor Palpatine, describing him as a monster created with the participation of the chamber itself. After the speech, Mon Mothma was declared a traitor, the Imperial Security Bureau began hunting her, and she fled the capital. In exile she proclaimed the Declaration of Rebellion, which united the scattered cells, and led the Alliance as its Chancellor.
