Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker

Description

The ninth episode and the conclusion of both the sequel trilogy and the entire nine-film Skywalker Saga. It was released in December 2019. It was directed by J.J. Abrams, who wrote the screenplay together with Chris Terrio; Kathleen Kennedy served as producer, and the music was composed by John Williams. The film was originally to be directed by Colin Trevorrow, who left the project during development.

The action belongs to the final phase of the conflict between the Resistance and the First Order, roughly a year after the events of the eighth episode. The film introduces new characters, among them Jannah, Zorii Bliss, and the droid D-O, and expands the map of the universe with the planets Pasaana, Kef Bir, and Exegol.

The film earned a substantial box office and drew a formal line under the storyline begun in 1977. For the encyclopedia, the ninth episode serves as the late boundary of the canonical film chronology: the events of later works are dated from it.
