Founding of Luke Skywalker's academy

Luke Skywalker had nurtured the idea of a school since the end of the Galactic Civil War, drawing on the parting words of Obi-Wan Kenobi and on encounters with Force-sensitive people. The project was approved by the head of state, Mon Mothma; the location was suggested by Leia Organa Solo: Yavin 4, where the Alliance base had once stood in the Great Temple. The word “praxeum” itself had been introduced by the ancient scholar Karena, who defined it as the union of learning with action. The internal layout followed the four-tiered ziggurat: the upper tier with the Grand Audience Chamber became the teaching space, the next was given over to quarters for masters and students, below them were the Strategy Center, communications rooms, and dining halls, and the lowest level remained a hangar. The training grounds were equipped with remotes, combat droids, and training sabers. In addition to mastery of weapons and the Force, the students studied diplomacy and history. Most of the knights of the new Order came out of the praxeum, and in Skywalker's absence the school was run by Streen or by Kam and Tionne Solusar.
