Assault on Mount Tantiss and the end of Project Necromancer

Tantiss Base was located deep inside Mount Tantiss on the planet Wayland and was a secret Imperial scientific, cloning, and experimental facility. It was there that work continuing the Republic-era cloning program was carried out, and clones gathered from across the galaxy after the decommissioning of the Grand Army of the Republic were used as test subjects. The assault was carried out by a small team that fought its way to the facility and broke it open from the inside; the prisoners held in the laboratories broke free, and the collected research materials were destroyed along with their creators. The facility was put out of action approximately eighteen years before the Battle of Yavin. The destruction of the base halted the work of Project Necromancer: the collected data perished along with the facility, and its director, Royce Hemlock, was killed. After the loss of Tantiss, Tarkin closed the base and redirected its resources to another project.
