The trail from the captured transmitter leads Mace Windu and Shaak Ti to an abandoned industrial district of the capital. A search party of troopers and Padawans makes its way through the tunnels from Sidious's lair to the Senate District and emerges at the 500 Republica skyscraper, but the operation is cut short by the start of the attack on Coruscant.
Description
The trail emerged thanks to equipment captured from the Separatists: the mechno-chair of the Trade Federation's viceroy fell into the Republic's hands, along with the transmitter through which he received instructions. Analysis of the device showed that communications had been conducted not with a distant base but with the capital itself, which confirmed the Jedi's long-held suspicion that the secret Sith Lord was on Coruscant. The search led to the Works — a vast abandoned industrial district where no production had taken place for a long time and which neither the authorities nor residents visited. The investigation was led by Masters Mace Windu and Shaak Ti. Attention focused on the LiMerge building, registered to a front owner; beneath it, a hidden chamber with signs of recent occupancy was discovered, but the Sith himself was not there. The trail went cold: the enemy had left shortly before the search team arrived, as if he had known of its approach. Soon afterward came the attack on Coruscant and the abduction of the Chancellor, and the investigation had to be put on hold. The Jedi never connected the hideout they had found with the man they themselves were protecting.
