Jedi seize Nute Gunray's mechno-chair on Cato Neimoidia

19 BBYExact dateLast checked: 23 October 2026

An operation to capture the Viceroy of the Trade Federation fails: Gunray slips away but abandons his mechno-chair with its built-in transceiver. Anakin Skywalker disables the chair's self-destruct, and the Republic obtains a recording of the Viceroy's communications with Darth Sidious.

Description

The operation on Cato Neimoidia, the homeworld of the Trade Federation's Viceroy, aimed to capture Nute Gunray himself, a member of the Separatist Council. His fortress in the planet's western hemisphere was designated as the main target of the strike. The plan failed: Gunray slipped away and went into hiding in the Outer Rim. However, in his flight he abandoned his mechno-chair — a mobile throne with built-in communications equipment. The device captured by the Jedi proved more valuable than the prisoner would have been: through it, Republic Intelligence gained access to closed Separatist channels and important clues to the trail of the Sith behind the war. The intercepted messages made it possible to thwart the invasion of Belderone, but after that ambush the enemy was bound to realize that the channel had been compromised, and it became impossible to continue using the chair. Grievous himself blamed Gunray for the loss of the mechno-chair.
