Duel in the Temple of Pomojema
At the Temple of Pomojema on Mimban, Darth Vader got ahead of the crystal seekers and fought Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker at once. He defeated Organa and knocked Skywalker down, but lost his right arm to a lightsaber strike and lost the fight. After obtaining the crystal, Skywalker healed himself and Organa.
Description
Mimban, officially designated the fifth planet of the Circarpous system, was the homeworld of the Coway and the Mimbanese and was under Imperial rule. Two years after the Battle of Yavin, Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, together with the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO, crash-landed on this planet while en route to negotiations on the fourth planet of the same system. There they met Halla, an old woman sensitive to the Force, from whom they learned of the Kaiburr crystal, kept at the Temple of Pomojema and capable of greatly amplifying the abilities of one who wields the Force. The search for the crystal led them to the temple, where Darth Vader, who also knew of the find, had already arrived ahead of them. Both of them stood against him: first Leia Organa, who took up a lightsaber, and then Luke Skywalker. This was their first confrontation with Vader. The duel ended with Vader falling into a deep shaft, which broke off the fight. The rebels took the Kaiburr crystal and left the planet. The episode belongs to the sequel Splinter of the Mind's Eye, written by Alan Dean Foster and published less than a year after the first film; it became the first work of the Expanded Universe.
