Han Solo wins the Millennium Falcon

c. 2 BBYApproximate dateLast checked: 23 October 2026

At a sabacc tournament in Cloud City, the smuggler beats the former owner of a YT-1300 light freighter in the final game and wins the ship. He then begins modifying the vessel for smuggling and, with his partner, stops at Kashyyyk, where the partner is getting married.

Description

Sabacc tournaments in Cloud City on Bespin were not being held for the first time: approximately seventeen years before the Battle of Yavin, one of them had been used as cover for a deal involving the Hutt Darga. Five years before the Battle of Yavin, Six Truvi, the then owner of the Millennium Falcon, took part in the competition. The game between Han Solo and Lando Calrissian took place approximately two and a half years before the Battle of Yavin and lasted four days. In addition to several thousand credits, Calrissian staked any ship from his lot on Nar Shaddaa. In the final hand, he was one card short of an Idiot's Array. In addition to twenty thousand credits in the pot, Solo won roughly the same amount over all the days of the tournament. When Calrissian offered him his choice of any ship, he immediately named the Millennium Falcon. The objection that it was the owner's personal ship and not part of the deal was rejected: the vessel was standing on the same lot.
