Death of Borsk Fey'lya

c. 27 ABYApproximate dateLast checked: 23 October 2026

When the enemy burst into the former Imperial Palace, the New Republic's Chief of State blew himself up with a proton bomb, taking some twenty-five thousand invaders with him. His target was the warmaster Tsavong Lah, but Lah had been warned and stayed outside the capital.

Description

The Bothan Borsk Fey'lya had held the post of Chief of State of the New Republic since 23 ABY. For most of the war, he guarded his own reputation, was prepared to hand Yavin 4 over to the invaders, and considered surrendering the Jedi, as demanded by Warmaster Tsavong Lah. The turning point came when Nom Anor appeared before the Senate with new demands: Fey'lya publicly backed Luke Skywalker and called the Vong cowards. When the offensive against Coruscant began, the Chief of State asked his longtime rival Leia Organa Solo to lead the defense, while he himself remained in the former Imperial Palace. He attached a proton bomb to a heartbeat sensor and announced his surrender, hoping to detonate it together with Tsavong Lah. The Warmaster saw through the plan and sent Commander Romm Zqar in his place, who killed the Bothan when he refused to capitulate. The explosion destroyed Zqar, more than twenty-five thousand warriors, and almost half of the palace along with its data towers, preserving the Republic's secrets. Fey'lya's death prompted the Bothans to declare ar'krai — total war.
