Thrawn

Thrawn came from the Chiss Ascendancy, a people of the Unknown Regions, and entered Imperial service, rising quickly through its ranks despite prejudice against nonhumans. His method was based on studying an opponent's culture and art: from the enemy's fighting style and aesthetics he deduced their way of thinking and anticipated their decisions.

After receiving the rank of grand admiral, he was placed in charge of the campaign against the rebel cells. Thrawn drove back the rebel forces, dealt them a heavy defeat at Atollon and destroyed their base, and then focused on Lothal, where the Empire was setting up production of new starfighters. He also took part in Imperial weapons programs and continued to monitor the threats approaching the Ascendancy from the Unknown Regions.

The campaign ended in defeat for him: during the liberation of Lothal, Ezra Bridger summoned the space creatures known as purrgil, which wrapped around the flagship Chimaera and dragged it into hyperspace along with the grand admiral. Thrawn's fate long remained unknown.
