Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – Knights of the Old Republic

Description

The first miniseries of the Tales of the Jedi cycle, published by Dark Horse Comics in five issues from October 19, 1993, to February 15, 1994. It was written by Tom Veitch, with art by Chris Gossett, Janine Johnston, and David Roach. In collected reprints the arc was given the subtitle Knights of the Old Republic; it was preceded by a short story printed in the Dark Horse Comics anthology.

The story is set roughly four thousand years before the Battle of Yavin, in the era of the Old Republic, which comics had barely explored before the series came out. The narrative is split into two lines: a mission of young Jedi on the planet Onderon and the coming of age of Nomi Sunrider, a student of Master Thon. The series introduces to the Expanded Universe Ulic Qel-Droma, his brother Cay, the Twi'lek Tott Doneeta, Master Arca Jeth, and the legacy of the fallen Jedi Freedon Nadd.

In the Legends chronology, it is the starting point of an entire branch of works: the names, planets, and conflicts established here became the foundation for subsequent Tales of the Jedi arcs and later for the Knights of the Old Republic game series.
