Description
Republic Commando: Hard Contact is a 293-page novel by Karen Traviss, published by Del Rey on October 26, 2004. It is the first book in the Republic Commando series and at the same time a literary companion to the video game of the same name.
The story is set in 22 BBY, at the very beginning of the Clone Wars. At the center of the narrative is the composite clone commando squad Omega (Niner, Fi, Atin, and Darman), sent to the planet Qiilura with the task of destroying a Separatist laboratory developing a biological weapon. The soldiers are assisted by the local inhabitants, the Gurlanins.
The novel belongs to the Expanded Universe and the Legends continuity. It launched Traviss's five-book cycle, continued by the novels Triple Zero, True Colors, Order 66, and 501st, and together with them created one of the most detailed portraits in the Expanded Universe of the daily life, culture, and Mandalorian roots of the clone army.
