Death Troopers

Death Troopers is a novel by Joe Schreiber, released on October 13, 2009; the paperback edition appeared on October 26, 2010. The book is notable for being the first attempt at full-fledged horror in the Star Wars universe: the author drew directly on the tradition of horror films and space thrillers.

The story is set roughly a year before the events of A New Hope. The plot unfolds aboard an Imperial prison transport stranded in empty space next to an abandoned Star Destroyer, where the prisoners and guards are overtaken by an unknown threat. The confined space of the ship serves as the main setting of the narrative.

The novel belongs to the Expanded Universe and the Legends continuity. In December 2010 Schreiber released the prequel Red Harvest, set in the era of the Old Republic. The two books form a small, standalone line of horror works within the franchise.
