Ryloth

Ryloth is an Outer Rim planet, the homeworld of the Twi'leks. The world keeps one side facing its star, so that one hemisphere is scorched by heat, the other locked in cold, and life is concentrated in the habitable band between them; the population lives in cave cities sheltered from sandstorms.

The planet is associated with the extraction and export of valuable raw materials, including the intoxicating substance ryll, which drew criminal syndicates here, while some of the inhabitants were carried off the planet as slaves.

During the Clone Wars Ryloth was occupied by forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, which imposed a harsh regime and deprived the population of food. The Republic carried out an offensive in cooperation with the local liberation movement and restored self-government to the planet. Under the Empire the planet was again occupied, and resistance on it resumed.
