Nickel One

Nickel One is a large asteroid in the Roche belt and the capital of the Roche system, the home system of the sentient Verpine species. Unlike planetary capitals, it is a compact mining and industrial facility, fully adapted to the needs of the species that inhabits it.

After the end of the Yuuzhan Vong War, Nickel One became an adopted homeworld for the Verpine. Here they maintained their main munitions factories, which turned the asteroid into a notable center of military industry and made it strategically valuable to the warring parties of subsequent conflicts.

During the Swarm War, Nickel One was attacked by a convoy of Killik ships; Jedi Masters Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade Skywalker, together with Jedi Knight Jacen Solo, helped repel the invasion. Toward the end of the Second Galactic Civil War the asteroid was attacked by forces of the Imperial Remnant that remained loyal to Darth Caedus; the defense was held by Mandalorians, who had previously set up their base on Nickel One under an agreement with the Verpine.

Nickel One first appeared in the novel Dark Nest III: The Swarm War, and it also features in the book Legacy of the Force: Invincible and is mentioned in Fate of the Jedi: Apocalypse.
