Hoth

Hoth is a planet of the Hoth system in the Outer Rim, entirely locked in ice and snow. Temperatures on its surface drop so low that spending the night without shelter is fatal; predatory wampas inhabit the snowy wastes, and hardy tauntauns are used as mounts. A dense asteroid field lies near the planet.

After losing its earlier hideouts, the Rebel Alliance set up Echo Base here, placing hangars, command rooms, and living quarters in a system of ice caves. The approaches were covered by an energy shield and fixed guns.

The discovery of the base by an Imperial probe led to a ground offensive using heavy walkers. The rebels held trenches in the snow while transports carrying personnel left the planet, after which the base was abandoned.
