Ghorman
Profile
A planet in the Sern sector known for producing fine silk and for its proud, independent population. Under the Empire it was subjected to harsh occupation because of deposits of a valuable resource, and the massacre of a peaceful demonstration in its main square became one of the turning points that pushed senators to an open break with the regime.

Description
Ghorman belonged to the Sern sector and throughout its history was distinguished by its independence in relations with the central government. During the Clone Wars the sector was represented in the Galactic Senate, and the planet's inhabitants supported a petition demanding that Sheev Palpatine relinquish his emergency powers and open negotiations for a ceasefire; the document was submitted at the last full session of the Senate before the end of the war in 19 BBY.
Under the Empire, pressure on the planet mounted. The trade embargo imposed on Ghorman turned out to be a failure for Imperial propaganda: the Ministry of Education wound down the campaign, and Senator Mon Mothma managed to gather the votes to lift the restrictions. Shortly after the robbery of the Imperial vault on Aldhani, a resentencing directive was adopted that sharply toughened the punishments for crimes against the Empire, which also intensified the occupation regime on the planet itself.
