End of the Dark Nest Crisis

c. 36 ABYApproximate dateLast checked: 23 October 2026

A novel set in 40 ABY mentions the Swarm War as a conflict that had ended four years earlier, culminating in Luke Skywalker's confrontation with Raynar Thul.

Description

The Dark Nest Crisis grew out of a clash between the Chiss Ascendancy and the Colony, a community of Killiks expanding its nests. The Killiks were joined by the Joiners, including some of the Jedi who had survived the mission to Myrkr, which complicated the relations of the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances with the Chiss. Attempts to prevent war collapsed when Jacen Solo attacked a Chiss supply depot, provoking a strike against the Killiks. The open Swarm War unfolded in the Unknown Regions and Wild Space. The Alliance forces were led by Supreme Commander Gilad Pellaeon, and the New Jedi Order by Luke Skywalker. Among the major events was a coup on Thyferra that halted bacta production; in the end the Alliance prevailed. The outcome of the conflict was Skywalker's conclusion that the Order had become too entangled with Alliance politics. He declared himself Grand Master, established a new Jedi Council, and withdrew the Order from the Chief of State's advisory council, determining that the Jedi were to serve, not to rule.
