Outer Rim Sieges

c. 19 BBYApproximate dateLast checked: 23 October 2026

Prolonged fighting on the fringes scattered the leading Jedi across the fronts and left the capital without their protection.

Description

By the third year of the Clone Wars, the Confederacy had been pushed out of the Core and the Colonies into the Mid and Outer worlds, and the fighting concentrated on the fringes of the galaxy. The protracted campaign became known as the Outer Rim Sieges and was the final one of the war. The Supreme Commander of the droid armies, General Grievous, launched a counteroffensive that brought the Republic forces to the brink of defeat, and in response the Council dispatched Jedi generals to the fronts, stretching the Order across dozens of systems. The long confrontation exhausted both sides: the Republic was bankrupting itself on military spending and curtailing civilian programs, while the Confederacy was exhausting its industrial capacity. Criminal syndicates and pirates took advantage of the weakened control over the fringes to expand their influence. In the end the balance tipped in the Republic's favor, but a side effect of the sieges was that the most experienced Jedi found themselves far from Coruscant. By the time the war reached its climax, the capital and the Order itself were left practically without their protection.
