Opening of Starlight Beacon

c. 232 BBYApproximate dateLast checked: 23 October 2026

The Republic opened a beacon station on the border of the Outer Rim, a symbol that help would reach even the most distant worlds.

Description

The station was conceived by Supreme Chancellor Lina Soh as one of her “Great Works,” visible proof that the Republic reached even the fringes. It was built in the Eiram system, near the hard-to-reach dark zones of the Outer Rim, and the site was chosen in memory of Monarch Kassel and Master Simmix, who had died a quarter of a century earlier. Construction was overseen by the Bith administrator Shai Tennem; almost a fifth of the structure consisted of rare triazurite, which amplified signal transmission. In addition to serving as a beacon and communications hub, it functioned as a hospital, observatory, archive, market, and cultural center with re-created landscapes of the frontier worlds, and also housed the largest gathering of Jedi outside Coruscant. Its administration was shared by three people, an admiral of the Defense Coalition, a Republic administrator, and a Jedi Master, who decided matters by majority vote. The Jedi side was to have been headed by Jora Malli, who left the Council for this purpose, but she was killed at the Battle of Kur, and Avar Kriss was appointed Marshal of the station. Grand Masters Yoda and Pra-Tre Veter arrived for the dedication; the ceremony was held exactly on the date set by the Chancellor.
