Liberation of Naboo

c. 32 BBYApproximate dateLast checked: 23 October 2026

The queen fought her way back, uniting the townspeople and the Gungans against the occupying droid army.

Description

Having failed to obtain help from the Senate, Queen Padmé Amidala returned to the occupied planet and turned to the Gungans, with whom the people of Naboo had had no common dealings for centuries. Admitting before Boss Nass that humans had previously considered themselves superior to their underwater neighbors, she secured an alliance: the Gungans fielded an army, and the Naboo provided pilots and palace guards. The plan was built on dividing forces. The Gungan army went out onto the plains and took the blow of the bulk of the battle droids, drawing them away from the capital. The Queen's team infiltrated the palace at Theed to capture Viceroy Nute Gunray, while a flight of starfighters rose toward the orbiting droid control ship. The Gungans, despite their energy shields, could not withstand the onslaught and were scattered, and the Jedi covering the way into the palace faced a dark side warrior. The outcome was decided by a chance participant: Anakin Skywalker, who had ended up in a starfighter, got inside the control ship and disabled it. The droids shut down all at once across the planet. Gunray was taken into custody and put on trial, and Naboo held a joint celebration with the Gungans.
