Warning: this entry reveals minor plot details.

Jedi Dooku and his Padawan Qui-Gon set out on a mission involving the kidnapping of a senator's son.

Description

The assignment dates to the time when Qui-Gon Jinn was already Master Dooku's Padawan but had not yet been knighted: according to the accepted chronology, this was the period between 68 and 58 BBY. The occasion was the kidnapping of the son of Senator Dagonet, who represented his world in the Galactic Senate. The action took place on the planet Wayyl. The two Jedi went there alone, without an escort; on the other side were the senator himself and his soldiers, as well as the farmers of an impoverished village who were holding the young man. The confrontation went beyond a simple hostage rescue: both sides suffered losses, and at one point Dooku used force against the senator himself. The assignment ended with the son being returned to his father. For the Republic and the order, however, what mattered more was not the outcome but how it was achieved: the Master's conduct on Wayyl became early evidence of his disillusionment with the existing order, and the Padawan's action a sign of the kind of Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn would become.
