Desertion of the Hand of Judgment unit
After refusing to fire on civilians on the planet Teardrop, the stormtrooper Daric LaRone killed Imperial Security Bureau Major Drelfin in self-defense. Together with four fellow troopers, he left the Star Destroyer Reprisal and formed a band of self-appointed avengers that called itself the Hand of Judgment.
Description
Service aboard the Star Destroyer Reprisal had taught some of the stormtroopers that Imperial orders did not always square with the order the Empire proclaimed. The turning point came during an operation on the planet Teardrop, where the unit was ordered to open fire on civilians. The Imperial Security Bureau major in command of them insisted that the order be carried out. Refusing to fire, Sergeant Daric LaRone shot the major, after which continued service became impossible for him and his men: a court-martial and execution awaited them. Five stormtroopers seized a ship and left the formation, keeping their armor and weapons. Calling themselves the Hand of Judgment, they began acting on their own, passing themselves off as a legitimate patrol and intervening wherever local authorities or criminals oppressed the inhabitants. The deserters found themselves hunted both by the Empire and by the Imperial Security Bureau, which sought to cover up the circumstances of the incident. Later their paths crossed with the Emperor's Hand Mara Jade, who, having weighed their actions, chose to let the unit go rather than turn them in.
