Mace Windu ends the Summertime War on Haruun Kal

22 BBYExact dateLast checked: 23 October 2026

The cyclical war between the Korunnai and the Balawai, which had become a proxy front of the Clone Wars, comes to an end. The Korunnai, led by Windu and Billaba, take the Pelek Baw spaceport, Windu overcomes Depa Billaba and Kar Vastor, and the sides then agree, with him as mediator, to form a joint democratic government.

Description

The Summertime War on Haruun Kal began almost thirty years before the Clone Wars over a dispute about the jungle. The Korunnai drove their grassers through it, trampling clearings and leaving for the winter, while the Balawai needed untouched forests for harvesting and exporting their products. Skirmishes escalated into guerrilla warfare and retaliatory air strikes, and the fighting resumed year after year once the snows melted and died down with the autumn rains — hence the name. As the Separatist Crisis intensified, the conflict became part of the galactic war: the Confederacy armed the Balawai and, in exchange for crushing the Korunnai, promised them control of the Al'Har system, stationing a garrison of battle droids on the planet. Upon learning of this, Masters Mace Windu and Depa Billaba arrived on the planet to prevent the system from going over to the enemy. Leading the Korunnai, Windu won decisive victories at Lorshan Pass and in Pelek Baw and destroyed the droid control center. Through his mediation, the warring sides agreed to establish a joint democratic government, which brought the Summertime War to an end.
