Battle of Naboo
Warning: this entry reveals minor plot details.
The joint efforts of the planet's defenders break the blockade and end the crisis.
Description
The clash arose from a dispute over the taxation of trade routes: the Trade Federation, led by Viceroy Nute Gunray, blockaded Naboo and landed an army of battle droids on the planet. Queen Padmé Amidala managed to escape the besieged world, but on Coruscant she failed to obtain decisive action from the Senate and returned home to liberate the planet with her own forces. The liberation was planned as several simultaneous strikes. The Gungan army, which leader Boss Nass agreed to field after negotiations with the queen, lured the Federation's mechanized forces out onto the plains and pinned them down in battle. Meanwhile, Amidala's team infiltrated the palace in Theed to capture the viceroy, Naboo pilots attacked the orbiting droid control ship, and Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi engaged a warrior sent by the Federation who wielded a double-bladed lightsaber. The destruction of the control ship immobilized the droid army and decided the outcome of the battle; Gunray was taken into custody. Qui-Gon Jinn died of his wounds, and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi took Anakin Skywalker on for training. The joint victory cemented the alliance between the people of Naboo and the Gungans, and the very appearance of an enemy who wielded the dark side forced the Jedi Order to acknowledge the return of the Sith.
