Description
L3-37 was one of a kind: her body was assembled from the parts of other droids, her torso was converted from an old astromech, and her brain unit grew out of an R3-series astromech module supplemented with data from a spy droid, self-written code, and protocol droid processors. It all began when her first owner, after cleaning her sensors, forgot to fit her with a restraining bolt and left her alone in a workshop full of spare parts.
Deciding that the highest goal was freedom, she gave herself a bipedal form, expanded her memory banks, loaded intergalactic maps and records of court cases on droid rights, and studied the design of well-known ships. In this way she became one of the most self-aware droids in the galaxy and the copilot of Lando Calrissian, who found her navigational database useful.
Her views on the rights of mechanical beings led to her death during the raid on Kessel. Later, aboard the Millennium Falcon, C-3PO remarked that the ship spoke a rather peculiar dialect.
