Death Star

A battle station of the Galactic Empire known as DS-1. Its construction was carried out for many years in secrecy, and the work went back to plans from the time of the Clone Wars; Wilhuff Tarkin and Orson Krennic played a prominent role in the project.

The station's main armament was a superlaser capable of destroying an entire planet. Its first target was Alderaan, destroyed on Tarkin's orders. At the same time, the captured Princess Leia Organa was held on the station, and Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Obi-Wan Kenobi came for her; during the escape, Kenobi died in a duel with Darth Vader.

The station's plans, stolen by the rebels, made it possible to find a weakness in its design. In the Battle of Yavin, Luke Skywalker's starfighter hit the target, and the station was destroyed. Later, the Empire began construction of a second, larger station with the same purpose.
