Training on Dagobah

Dagobah is a little-studied planet of swamps and forests in the system of the same name, considered one of the purest places in the galaxy from the standpoint of the Force. After the destruction of the Jedi Order, it was this planet that Grand Master Yoda chose for his exile, living there in seclusion for about two decades; there were no settlements and no Imperial presence on the planet, which ensured his concealment. The student came there at the direction of Obi-Wan Kenobi's spirit. The training took the form not of exercises with weapons but of work on perception and self-control; a separate trial was a cave strong with the dark side, where the student confronted his own fear. The teacher long hesitated over whether to take on the training, considering the student too impatient and too attached to what lay far away. The course remained unfinished: the student broke it off to go to the aid of his friends, against the warnings of both his teachers. He returned to Dagobah later, and it was there that Yoda died and became one with the Force.
