Refugee crisis on Starlight Beacon

Starlight Beacon was built in the Outer Rim as conceived by Chancellor Lina Soh as one of her Great Works and was commissioned in 232 BBY. Located among little-explored dark zones, it served as a beacon and communications amplifier and also combined the functions of a military base, hospital, archive, observatory, and cultural center. Management was shared by a representative of the Defense Coalition, a Republic administrator, and a Jedi Master, and the station itself housed the largest gathering of Jedi outside Coruscant. A wave of Nihil raids on frontier worlds sent a stream of surviving inhabitants to the station. The hospital and residential levels became overcrowded, resources were spent on receiving and housing those rescued, and some of the garrison's forces and Jedi were constantly diverted to evacuation flights. Overloaded with people and with its own defenses stretched thin, the station became a vulnerable target, which the raiders later exploited.
