Amnesty program for Imperial personnel

The New Republic Amnesty Program operated on Coruscant and was a whole network of institutions engaged in the rehabilitation and gradual return to civilian life of former Imperial personnel. It was assumed that their knowledge would also help the new government in its struggle against the Imperial remnants. Selection went through the Reintegration Institute, where officers and scientists underwent lengthy sessions intended to free them from Imperial propaganda and conditioning. Those who completed it were invited to the capital, housed in an amnesty housing complex, and offered positions in their former specialties. Each was assigned a new designation consisting of a job title and an alphanumeric code, and daily conversations with a supervising droid recorded both the participant's work progress and state of mind. Participants' freedom was restricted: leaving the designated zone in the center of Galactic City was forbidden, except in special cases such as public talks about life under the Empire. Violators were considered to have relapsed and were returned to the Reintegration Institute for repeat treatment.
